About Project 0
Project 0 is an initiative of (CDET) aimed at reducing mass incarceration through the implementation of restorative justice and harm reduction models. This initiative seeks to shift the focus from the traditional punitive approach to a more compassionate and evidence-based model. The goal is to address the root causes and facilitate rehabilitation, and promote community healing and reintegration of incarcerated individuals. Project 0 aims to decrease the rates of incarceration by pushing to end overcharging by the District Attorney, changing pre-trial release practices and calling for increased spending for treatment and harm reduction, and a push to decriminalize low level drug offenses.

This study aims to spotlight the practice of charging petty thefts from retail outlets like Walmart as felony burglary, a practice that disproportionately affects the marginalized and exacerbates the cycle of incarceration and helps further the prison pipeline and perpetuate the poverty and the private prison industry here in Tennessee.

PROJECT 0 and Feed The Need are projects under Community Defense of East Tennessee, (CDET), is a grassroots, community-based organization focused on the education, liberation, support, and empowerment of people while fighting injustices, for equity, social and restorative change. Our focus is ending the prison pipeline and moving our communities away from punitive models that focus on punishment to more compassionate models that focus both on healing people and communities.
